  Illini: #1 in media relations
Brett Dawson of the Champaign News-Gazette has a post on his blog about how the Illini basketball team is very accomodating to the media. This may not seem like a big deal to some of you but, without boring you with too many details of Illini Wonk's personal life, my paying job is in media relations and I have worked with a college sports information department in the past. Being accessible to the media can help a lot when trying to project a positive image for your program. It can also lead to the kind of press coverage I pointed out in the preceeding post. It's good to hear that coach Weber's savvy is not limited to the sidelines of the basketball court.

It is also interesting that Dawson's employer does not similarly make their articles about the Illini readily available to the public but instead charges for online subscriptions, unlike The Decatur Herald-Review or The Peoria Journal Star.
