Illini Land 2006 Recruit
He averaged 22.3 points and 11.1 rebounds as a junior for Lutheran West High School in Rocky River, Ohio, and on Sunday night Richard Semrau made a
commitment to the Illinois Basketball team. The 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward is regarded among the top 75 juniors in the nation. He had an offer from Florida and interest from North Carolina. You can see a picture
here. On his blog, Mark Tupper says Semrau's
upside is through-the-roof high, saying
he may be the best outside shooting big man whose name was not Brian Cook.
Semrau visited the Illinois campus on the same weekend as
Jon Scheyer, the 6-foot-6, 175-pound small forward who led Glenbrook North to the Class AA title in March. He's playing high school ball for Bruce Weber's brother and has narrowed his decision to Illinois, Duke or Arizona. His decision is expected sometime this summer and maybe soon.
Matt Trowbridge of the
Rockford Register-Star thinks Scheyer should go to Illinois, the school
he'll have more fun at.
The rest of
Illinois' 2006 recruiting class looks promising. Stay tuned to Illini Wonk for updates.
